By providing a safe environment through their Training Centre, Offspring not only aids in recovery but also empowers survivors to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
What is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking, a grim reality of our times, involves the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain and is a pervasive global issue. According to World Vision Australia, nearly 21 million people are trafficked worldwide, with the industry generating an estimated $150 billion annually.
Human trafficking in India, as in many parts of the world, revolves around two key elements: movement and control. Victims are often transported across states or borders, with traffickers exploiting vulnerabilities such as poverty, lack of education, and social inequality.
The control their abusers have over them takes many forms and can be difficult to identify. It could look like:
Abduction; Deception; Abuse of authority; Fraudulent promises of employment or marriage
This control leads to severe exploitation, manifesting as forced labor in industries like agriculture, construction, and domestic work, child trafficking for begging or bonded labor, sex trafficking, and even organ trafficking. Forced marriages and trafficking within rural and urban areas are significant concerns.
India’s vast size, socio-economic disparities, and porous borders make it a hub for both domestic and international trafficking, calling for urgent action to address this grave violation of human rights.
