Journey Through Culture, Cafes & Chaos in Vietnam’s Heart

It is definitely difficult to pick a favourite when each city and region has their own unique flavour and feel, but Asia has my heart, more specifically Vietnam. From North to South, each region and province is as diverse as the next.

For me Hanoi has to be my favourite city.

Great food, friendly people, historically diverse, extensive shopping, beautiful rivers and parks, rich culture, hidden art scene, a vibrant social atmosphere, unique shows and music and the doorstep to adventure.

I love being able to walk for  hours down laneways and alleys, stopping for a delicious coffee or pastry, visiting important monuments and museums, all whilst trusting the traffic and dodging bikes just to cross the road. I love being perched under a tiny red plastic table and chair on the side of a street with a big bowl of Pho or Bun Bo, entertained by the chaos unfolding around me.

I love the friendly ‘Xin Chao’ or humble simile as you walk past local vendors and shops. I love the vast differences between the city centre, lake side and across the old quarter. I love the way it remains true to its history and the people trust their knowledge and skills. And I love how it is the gateway to not only the rest of Vietnam, but across the borders and into South East Asia.

In a steadfastly changing world – adapting to Westernisation. This city of madness holds an unparalleled balance of authenticity, culture and modern energy.
