This Is Why I Love Where I Live

“I could simply only describe this as the Aussie Feel Good Factor, that is truly unique to this country.”

Hi my name is Eve & this is why i love where i live:

16 years ago, my family decided to leave everything we had (family, friends, house etc) on the East coast of England

& journey across to the other side of the world because, well, really, what have we got to lose?

We found ourselves in the similar climate to the one we had just left by arriving into Melbourne.

My brother and I found ourselves in primary school in the beautiful suburbs of Bayside Melbourne, whilst Mum and Dad found their feet in a new world of Aussie slang, AFL rivalries, coffee catch ups, beach walks and backyard BBQ’s.

It didn’t take long for us to become fully immersed into the Aussie way of life.

Whilst we absolutely loved being by the beach and its proximity to the bustling city of Melbourne, we found ourselves relocating in Geelong regional Victoria, where life seems a little bit calmer.

I think if there’s one thing our family learnt very quickly when we moved to Australia, is that community spirit runs thick and the social aspect of life is huge!

The power of community does bring you together and help you find pieces of yourself you didn’t know belonged to you before.

So here are XI reasons why I love where I live;

  1. I love the energy. Full of peace and quiet with only the sounds of the birds chirping in the trees. A soundtrack for the soul.
  2. I love that in summer the vibes are immaculate! A smile across everyone’s faces as they plan trips to the beach, camper trailers at the ready and barbecues sizzling
  3. I love that we’re not too far away from the city. Within an hour we can be at some of the coolest venues, dining, shows and experiences like no where else in the world
  4. I love waking up to the sunshine and inhaling fresh, clean air.
  5. I love being able to pop out for a quick walk or run along the Barwon River
  6. I love planning a weekend dinner at some of the grooviest local restaurants and bars that really bring home the Melburnian culture
  7. I love the passionate competitive nature of the local people for their home AFL team, the Geelong Cats.
  8. I love that we are in prefect proximity to famous beaches like Bells Beach and the bubbling town of Torquay
  9. I love that there are 101 options to move my body. Pilates, gym, cross fit and you name it!
  10. I love that Geelong holds such a uniquely vibrant community spirit, where everyone is so friendly and will always smile at you as they walk past
  11. My most of all, I love that home is where the heart is. And my heart will always lie where my family is.

I think it’s really important to find aspects of ‘why you love where you live’ and remind yourself just how lucky we are each and every day.

I feel very lucky to live in Australia. Where these things combine into one happy place.

Although I have found the need to travel the world over the past few years, I always feel incredibly lucky to come HOME every time.

I could simply only describe this as the Aussie Feel Good Factor, that is truly unique to this country.
