Trusting Your Gut & Knowing When It’s Time for Change: A Conversation with Fiona Luca

In our November 2024 interview for the ELEVEN podcast, Jules and I sat down with Fiona Luca, a woman whose courage and wisdom left us feeling inspired and introspective.

As a dance educator and holistic wellness coach, Fiona’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

What stood out most during our conversation was her raw honesty about the difficult decisions she’s faced—and the invaluable lessons she’s learned by trusting her instincts.

Fiona opens up about listening to that quiet voice inside, even when it feels impossible to act on it.

The Moment of Realisation

“I realised that I wasn’t pursuing things to the extent I wanted, and I needed to make a choice,” Fiona shared, reflecting on her decision to sell her dance studio. After 11 years of dedication to building it into a thriving community, she felt drawn to something different—something more in tune with the person she was becoming.

“The guilt I felt, standing before my entire community and saying, ‘I can’t do this anymore,’ was overwhelming,” she admitted.

Yet Fiona’s perspective on change offered hope amidst the pain: letting go wasn’t the end, but an opportunity to create space for something greater.

“What you don’t realise yet,” she said, “is the magic that awaits you—beyond what you can imagine.” For Fiona, the hardest decisions often held the promise of a brighter future. Trusting that belief gave her the courage to step into the unknown, knowing that every ending is the start of something new.

One of Fiona’s most profound realisations was that she had outgrown the space she had created. “It wasn’t about failure, but evolution,” she explained. “The space that once served me no longer fit who I had become, and I was ready for more.” This wasn’t about dissatisfaction but about growth. Sometimes, what once felt like home becomes too small for who we’re becoming. Recognising that doesn’t diminish the past; it simply marks the beginning of a new chapter.

The Beauty in Life’s Challenges

When asked how she navigates uncertainty, Fiona’s perspective was refreshingly candid:

“Knowing that life is constantly serving us… and pardon my French, but shit’s gonna constantly arrive—it’s the nature of the beast, right? And it’s actually supposed to. We need it. We need it. It’s important.”

It’s a mindset that transforms challenges into opportunities for growth.

Fiona explained how these moments of “conflict and agitation” are often exactly what we need to move forward: “To take charge of, or to move through, or to heal, or to embrace, or to accept.”

It’s a lesson we can all carry with us: the idea that the decisions we make today, even the hard ones, have the potential to create something extraordinary.

Moving Forward with Courage

Fiona Luca’s story is one of bravery, self-awareness, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth.

Her willingness to embrace change, even when it meant leaving behind a piece of her identity, is a powerful reminder that the best things in life often come from trusting our instincts and stepping into the unknown.

If you’re standing at a crossroads, wondering whether it’s time for a change, take a page from Fiona’s book. Trust your gut, lean into the discomfort, and believe in the magic waiting for you on the other side.
